So, tomorrow is the triathlon in Gainesville. A few of us are doing it. I will start off by saying, I am so proud to again be doing this. I will also say the preparation has been long and hard. Much sleep has been sacrificed to become capable of this endurance sport. It all started with someone else's dream this time. Someone else wanted to do this and wanted me to train them. I'd never done that before, but I had done 2 triathlons. I wasn't going to do another one, I wasn't in the mood, then after watching a few of my tri-friends begin to "gut it out" getting in shape on a bike and on the road and in a pool, I knew I had to do it, just to be around this vibe and drive. Plus I know how incredible they will feel when they cross the line!
If you are project Fitness and you are reading my words, I have to tell you I promote triathlons. But mostly I promote signing up and preparing to participate in something. Whether it's a tri or the Peachtree, there is something very valuable about signing up to participate in a race. It keeps you faithful! It scares you and makes you train! I mean, it's scary signing up months out from a race. I did that with the Peachtree, I signed up in March 2 yrs ago, it was a very uncertain time, but I knew it would empower me to train and complete such a daunting task. It was scary to sign up for my first triathlon, but I figured I could do this, having stayed very active the whole summer. I did it, scared to death, but did it. I signed up for my first half century not half as scared just curious about how long and hard a ride that would be.
Each event caused me to be faithful on a pretty consistent basis. Your preparation is your own confidence builder! It's all you've got to see you through. Hours and hours of training where ever you can squish it in.
After your initial experience you either want more or you now want to win or you want to try something else exciting. It doesn't rob you, it causes you to go farther than you would have.
To all my Project Fitness Friends, almost all of the coaches participate in local events to keep fit, to train for and achieve....I know I speak for them, we all want you to join us this next year, as you are getting fit, start checking out, www.active.com for events that are local, low cost and achieveable and let's go! Plus I want all my girls to join me for the Peachtree Road Race, we can walk, wog, trot, or train hard! But let's make it happen! It will be a faithful journey!
